IGCSE Department

It is the international general certificate of secondary education. It has international credibility recognized by all universities all over the world as well as the American University in Cairo (A.U.C.) and the Egyptian Universities.

IGCSE mode of education is to encourage students to meet challenges, to sense individualism and self esteem.

IGCSE caters for different levels of ability and offers a flexible course of study that gives candidates the freedom to choose subjects that fit them.

Each subject of the IGCSE has three levels:

An O.L. Subject: it is the ordinary level which concentrates on the core and extended syllabus.

An A.S. Subject: it is the advanced supplementary subject which concentrates on studying the higher level of the subject.

An A.L. Subject: it is the advanced level subject which is the highest subject level in the IGCSE programme.

IGCSE student is required to study 8 O.L. subjects in three years after 3rd preparatory or 7 O.L. + 1 A.S. subjects. This will qualify the students to be accepted in the Egyptian Universities.

For Admission to the A.U.C. the student must study at least 1 A.L. subject or 2 A.S. subjects in addition to the O.L. subjects.

1 A.S. subject is equivalent to 2 O.L. subjects.

1 A.L. subject is equivalent to 3 O.L. subjects.

Students are free to choose any subjects they require each year, whether they are “O.L. only” or “O.L., A.S. & A.L. subjects”.

Usually in the 3rd year of the IGCSE students choose to improve the grades in any of the previously taken subjects.
